This week we dedicate our entry on language recommendations to dealing with expressions to talk about the time and to resolve any doubts that may arise.
give time or have time ?
believe me, noI don't think it will give me time to finish the job within the expected time frame.
tic, ok, yesI don't think I will have time to finish the work within the expected time frame.
tic, ok, yesI think there is no time to finish the work within the given time frame.
However, the expression give time is correct if there is someone who gives time : The teacher does not give us enough time to finish the exam. As we saw in the previous examples, if it is an Email Address List impersonal sentence, this expression is not correct, but must be done with the verb haver-hi or with another construction.
Making time or carrying time ?
We haven't seen each other in a while . (genuine construction)
We hadn't seen each other for a while .
I've been asking for a long time to adopt a dog. (genuine construction)
I have been asking to adopt a dog for some time .
Both constructions are accepted and are used to express the idea of duration or continuity in a certain time . Despite this, the construction portar + temporal expression is more recent and not as genuine in Catalan as the previous one.
expressions to talk about the weather, language recommendations, dog, weather
